Best Times to Visit Cuba: Weather, Festivals, and Family Events

A month-by-month look at weather, hurricane season, and popular festivals to help you choose your travel dates.

There's no single "best" time to visit Cuba. It really depends on what matters most to you. Some travelers want sunny, comfortable days for walking around Old Havana. Others plan around a festival they've always wanted to see. And for many Cuban-American families, the best time is simply whenever everyone can be together at the same table.

This guide walks through Cuba's seasons, hurricane season, a month-by-month look at the year, and the festivals and family moments that shape when people travel. If you're also thinking about fares and how far ahead to book, see our guide "When to Book Cuba Flights: Seasons, Holidays, and Price Patterns."

Cuba's Two Main Seasons

Cuba has a tropical climate, so it's warm all year. Instead of four seasons, the island really has two: a dry season and a wet season.

  • Dry season (roughly November through April): Sunnier days, lower humidity, and the most comfortable weather of the year. Daytime temperatures are usually in the mild 70s to low 80s °F, and evenings can feel pleasantly cool, especially in January and February. This is the most popular time to visit.
  • Wet season (roughly May through October): Hotter and more humid, with daytime temperatures often in the upper 80s to 90s °F. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are common, but they usually pass quickly and leave the rest of the day clear.

Hurricane Season: What Travelers Should Know

The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, with the most activity usually from August through October. That doesn't mean you should avoid Cuba during these months. Most days are simply hot and humid, and many trips during this period go smoothly. It just pays to be prepared.

  • Watch the forecast. Check the weather in the days before you leave, and again before you head to the airport.
  • Sign up for airline alerts. Your airline will text or email you if your flight is delayed, changed, or canceled.
  • Consider travel insurance. A policy that covers weather-related delays and cancellations can give you peace of mind.
  • Keep plans flexible. Leave a little room in your schedule, and choose refundable or changeable bookings when you can.

Weather isn't the only thing that can affect schedules this year. For more on the changes Cuba flights have seen in 2026, read "Understanding Cuba's 2026 Flight Disruptions: What Travelers Need to Know."

Best Times for Family Visits

For many travelers, the trip is about family first. These are the times people most often plan around:

  • Christmas and New Year's: The most meaningful time of year for many families, and also the busiest travel period. Flights and seats go quickly.
  • Summer break: A convenient time for families with school-age kids. Just expect hot, humid weather and plan for the heat.
  • Mother's Day, birthdays, and quinceañeras: Mother's Day in Cuba falls on the second Sunday in May and is a very special day for Cuban families. Birthdays and quinceañeras are also great reasons to plan a visit around a family moment.
